
NZ Super Fund appoints new CIO
New Zealand Superannuation Fund (NZSF) has appointed Stephen Gilmore to serve as chief investment officer (CIO).
Gilmore will join NZSF in February 2019, and will be a member of the Guardians' leadership team and investment committee. The Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation is the crown entity that manages the NZ$39bn sovereign fund.
In his new role, he will lead a team of 45 investment professionals, who are responsible for appointing and monitoring external managers for NZSF. The team also focuses on direct investment, responsible investment, and asset allocation, including macroeconomic strategy and the Guardians' strategic tilting programme.
Prior to NZSF, Gilmore has served as CIO at the Future Fund in Australia. He has previously worked for Banque AIG, Morgan Stanley, the International Monetary Fund and Chase Manhattan Bank.
NZSF has invested 5% of its portfolio to private equity as of October 2018. Some of the commitments include Adams Street 2007 Global Fund, KKR Fund 2006, HarbourVest International Private Equity Partners VI, and Coller International Partners V.
