Franklin Templeton appoints new head of EMEA alternative sales
Asset manager Franklin Templeton Investments has appointed George Szemere as head of alternative sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), effective from January.
Szemere is in charge of growing Franklin Templeton’s alternatives business in the EMEA region. His responsibilities include working closely with various alternative investment groups, product and distribution teams, in a bid to generate new product ideas meeting the needs of the firm’s institutional and retail clients in the region.
Franklin Templeton’s alternatives capabilities consist of private equity, hedge, commodities, real estate, infrastructure and venture capital strategies from Darby Overseas Investments, Franklin Real Asset Advisors, Franklin Venture Partners, K2 Advisors, Pelagos Capital Management, Templeton Global Macro and Templeton Private Equity Partners.
Based in London, Szemere reports to Vivek Kudva, managing director for EMEA and India. Szemere replaces Peter Vincent, who took over the role of regional head of investment solutions in EMEA at Franklin Templeton Multi-Asset Solutions.
Szemere joins from Columbia Threadneedle Investments, where he served as head of liquid alternatives and strategic relations, within the EMEA distribution group. He has previously worked for ABN AMRO and Goldman Sachs.
Franklin Templeton Investments and Asia Alternatives have recently agreed to form a joint venture that will provide bespoke global private equity funds-of-funds. The joint venture, called Franklin Templeton Private Equity (FTPE), is headed by Arthur Wang.
