Stonehage Fleming expands private capital team
Multi-family office Stonehage Fleming has expanded its private capital team with the appointment of Meiping Yap as director and James Jefferson as senior associate, both based in London.
Yap previously worked for the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) and HarbourVest Partners in London. Jefferson has worked for MVision Private Equity Advisers in London and Hong Kong, and prior to that was at BlackRock in London.
Stonehage Fleming's primary investment strategy is focused on small-cap and mid-market private equity investments globally, together with a secondary focus on technology and opportunistic investments.
Private equity is a core part of Stonehage Fleming's multi-disciplinary family office offering. The group has invested a total of $100m in private capital over the past year, and $1bn since 2001.
Caledonia Investments agreed to acquire a minority stake in the independently owned family office at the end of last year. The investment was set to be structured as a tender offer made to all of Stonehage Fleming's shareholders, alongside a share buy-back offer by Stonehage Fleming. Caledonia planned to acquire 36.7% of the fully diluted capital with the transaction expected to get regulatory approvals within three months.
