Blackstone launches impact platform with Goldman Sachs hire
Blackstone has launched a new impact platform, searching to deliver positive financial impact, as part of the firm's Strategic Partners group, which focuses on private fund investing.
The platform seeks to leverage Strategic Partners' scale and expertise across private equity, real estate and infrastructure by partnering with external impact managers focused on developed markets. It will also partner with other investing businesses within Blackstone.
Tanya Barnes, former managing director in Goldman Sachs' Merchant Banking division, will be responsible for leading the platform. Barnes joined the $512bn investment firm in April, and has previously worked for Golden Seeds and TLB Capital.
The platform will build on the firm's previous investments in impact themes, and on Strategic Partners' sourcing capabilities and partnerships with investment managers. Strategic Partners has raised $42bn dedicated to private equity, real estate and infrastructure secondary and fund investing.
The new initiative looks into investing in mission-orientated businesses and managers. It addresses four investment themes; health and wellbeing, financial access, sustainable communities, and green technologies.
