Balderton sells Recorded Future to Insight Partners in $780m deal
UK-based venture capital firm Balderton Capital has sold its stake in intelligence gathering software business Recorded Future in a deal that values the firm at $780m.
Balderton led a $12m series-C round for the Boston-headquartered company in 2012. It also invested alongside a consortium led by Google Ventures to provide an additional $12m in 2015.
Insight Ventures led the series-E in 2017 and has now wholly acquired the company.
Recorded Future was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Somerville, near Boston, Massachusetts. It has additional offices in Gothenburg, Sweden. The company develops a forecasting and analysis tool that uses internet sources to predict future threats. It has previously been backed by In-Q-Tel, the investment arm of the CIA.
