European investors dominate PRI Leaders’ Group
Europe-based institutional investors have dominated the PRI Leaders' Group 2019, which showcases principles for responsible investment (PRI) signatories that demonstrate responsible investment excellence on private and listed equity.
PRI Leaders selected 47 asset owners for their responsible investment work in the field of selecting, appointing and monitoring external managers, according to the relevant report. Out of them, 35 asset owners invest in private equity.
More than 70% of the asset owners with investment in private equity are based in Europe, amounting to 26. The rest of the investors are located in Australia (four), the US (three), and New Zealand (two).
Among the PE European investors that were selected, France is home to the majority of them (six), followed by the UK (five). The list also includes investors from the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and Norway.
However, there were no asset owners selected from Denmark, or southern or eastern Europe.
The PRI leaders group includes pension funds, sovereign funds, insurance companies and development finance institutions.
The report also reveals that the majority of the private equity asset owners have more than $50bn in assets under management.
