BlueGem places Mamas & Papas into pre-pack, reacquires it
BlueGem Capital Partners has bought UK childcare products retailer Mamas & Papas out of administration, having already owned the parent group since 2014.
The nursery products retailer was put into a pre-pack administration process by private equity owner BlueGem and reacquired by the incumbent immediately.
The sponsor has owned the parent group since 2014, when it acquired the business from founders David and Luisa Scacchetti just after it went through a company voluntary arrangement, whereby half of the group's shops closed.
Earlier this year, Deloitte was hired to explore sale options for Mamas & Papas. As part of the pre-pack, six loss-making shops will close. The news comes less than a week after nursery retailer Mothercare announced it would close all UK shops.
A pre-pack administration is a commonly used tool in the UK whereby a sale is pre-arranged and buyer lined up before an administrator is appointed.
