Dorilton launches venture strategy to target tech companies
US-based private equity firm Dorilton Capital has announced the launch of its early- to mid-stage investment strategy Dorilton Ventures.
At the same time, the group has rebranded from Dorilton Capital to Dorilton, which will comprise the PE and venture strategies.
Dorilton Ventures will lead significant minority investments in early- to mid-stage technology companies focused on data-centric segments such as enterprise IT infrastructure, data science and cybersecurity.
The firm will initially make investments of $5-10m, but may make add-on investments in some companies throughout their lifecycles. It will look at businesses globally.
The firm has already made early-stage investments in Babel Street, a multi-lingual, social media and web-monitoring platform; Hawkeye360, a space-based radio frequency analytics company; Post Acute Analytics, a healthcare analytics platform; and XenoTherapeutics, a personalised tissue therapeutics company.
Matthew Savage, Dorilton's co-founder and chairman, said the company's investments will not be time-limited, nor subject to the concentration limits faced by many VC funds.
In summer last year, the New York-based GP acquired Formula One motor racing team Williams Grand Prix Engineering (WGPE) for €152m.
