Harvard appoints new MD for private equity
Harvard Management Company (HMC), the Boston-based university endowment fund, has named Lane MacDonald as managing director of its private equity operations.
MacDonald replaces Peter Dolan, who left the endowment fund seven months ago.
MacDonald's first task in his new role will be to assess and reshape HMC's private equity portfolio. He will report to Andrew Wiltshire, head of alternative assets.
MacDonald joined HMC in August 2008 as senior vice president for private equity and was promoted to managing director of HMC's public markets platform in 2012. He previously spent eight years at Alta Communications as a general partner, where he was responsible for managing two of the firm's funds. Before that, MacDonald supported the management of funds at JW Childs Associates and BancBoston Capital.
MacDonald holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and an AB from Harvard. Besides his financial credentials, he was also captain of the Harvard hockey team in 1989 when it won the NCAA Championship and represented the US in the 1988 Winter Olympics.
