Change.vc calls industry to action
A new initiative named Change.vc is aiming to identify key areas where the venture capital industry can evolve in order to lead a new generation of investors.
Launched today, Change.vc first wants to hear the opinions of LPs, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, company founders and other stakeholders in the industry, regarding their views on venture's current offering.
Change.vc, has been established by Active Venture Partners in partnership with Tech.eu, unquote", Global Corporate Venturing, Foundum, Deutsche Startups, ArcticStartup, VCStartups, Rude Baguette, Loogic, Novobrief, Challengers, WhiteBull, Hamburg Startups and Barcelona Tech City.
Change.vc has come about because the founders feel some change is needed within venture capital, due to lacklustre performance figures. According to Change.vc, the average net IRR generated by the European industry has been negative since 2003, with only a small recovery in 2013. Furthermore, the founders noted increasing levels of competition for the industry, with disruption to the traditional model coming from accelerator programmes, crowdfunding, venture debt and media-for-equity, among others.
In addition, a recent study by vcwithme.com found that more than 40% of entrepreneurs would not recommend working with venture capital firms due to their "arrogance and unpersonable business approach".
