Deldağ and Nasir to co-head Carlyle MENA branch
The heads of Carlyle Turkey, Can Deldağ, and Carlyle GCC, Firas Nasir, have been appointed co-heads of Carlyle MENA.
They will jointly replace the recently resigned Walid Musallam. Carlyle stated the new appointments highlight its strategy in the MENA region, focusing on Turkey and the GCC region. By contrast, Musallam reportedly resigned over a row involving the closure of the firm's Egypt office.
Deldağ joined Carlyle in 2007, and was previously senior partner and head of transaction advisory services at Ernst & Young Turkey. He holds a management engineering degree from Istanbul Technical University.
Nasir also joined Carlyle in 2007, but from the New York and Silicon Valley offices of Credit Suisse First Boston, where he specialised in M&A. He holds an MBA from Wharton and a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University.
