KKR adds John Mack to senior team
KKR has hired John Mack as a senior adviser, joining its team of around two dozen top professionals.
Mack, who earned the nickname "Mack the Knife" for his tough cost cutting when he headed up Morgan Stanley, will serve on the team which advises KKR on investments and sits on the boards of portfolio companies.
He was CEO of Morgan Stanley between 2005 and 2010 and saw the bank through the financial crisis, overseeing its conversion to a commercial bank so it could access emergency funds from the Federal Reserve.
Mack also served in an earlier stint at Morgan Stanley, joining in the 1970s as a bond salesman and becoming president in 1993 before leaving the firm in 2001.
