JP Morgan sells half of One Equity portfolio to Lexington, AlpInvest
JP Morgan is offloading half of its private equity arm, One Equity Partners, to secondary funds Lexington Partners and AlpInvest, in a deal believed to be worth more than $4bn.
The deal will see Lexington and AlpInvest purchasing 50% of the portfolio companies currently owned by One Equity.
Following the transaction, the One Equity team will create a new private equity firm, OEP Capital Advisors, and will spin out from JP Morgan. Following its move to independence, OEP will manage the portfolio currently being sold by JP Morgan, as well as the investments retained by the bank.
One Equity was established in 2001, and has managed around $14bn in total investments and committed capital for JP Morgan. The firm operates out of offices in New York, Chicago, Sao Paulo and Frankfurt.
The captive fund merged two of its portfolio companies in January of last year – packaging companies Schoeller Arca and Linpac Allibert. One Equity has had a fairly quiet 2014, having only invested in Cless Cosmeticos, a Brazilian cosmetics company.
