3i buys ground handling specialist Aviapartner
3i has signed an agreement to acquire Aviapartner, one of Europe’s leading independent ground handlers.
The ground handling industry is a dynamic sector with strong growth prospects from the continued increase in air traffic and further out-sourcing of non-core operations by airlines. Furthermore, EU-enforced liberalisation of airports and Eastern European countries’ accession to the EU will provide Aviapartner with the opportunity to further expand into new stations and geographies.
Aviapartner, whose origin goes back to 1949 and holding headquarters are in Brussels, is one of the leading European independent ground handlers. The Aviapartner group provides a wide range of services at 31 airports in 5 European countries. In 2004, it served 20.8 million passengers, provided ramp handling for some 194,000 aircraft and handled 911,000 tons of cargo. Aviapartner employs more than 5,000 staff. In 2004, the group generated a consolidated turnover of EUR 268m.
