SVP bolsters Europe advisory council with Lloyds' Guthrie
US-based Strategic Value Partners (SVP) has appointed Ian Guthrie to its advisory council in Europe.
Guthrie will work alongside council members, which include: former UKFI chairperson David Cooksey; Bern Farholz, previously CEO of Dresdner Bank; and José Barreiro, the former BBVA global head of investment banking.
The four-person board is part of a team employed by SVP for its Europe operations. The firm opened its first offices on the continent a decade ago.
Guthrie join from Lloyds Bank, where he led the bank's real estate business support unit as managing director.
Earlier in his career, Guthrie was employed by Halifax Bank of Scotland, where he held the roles of head of impaired assets, equity origination, integrated partnerships and regional head of acquisition and integrated finance.
With $5bn in assets under management, SVP held a final close for its Special Situations Fund III on $1.56bn in December 2014, in excess of the vehicles initial $1bn target.
The vehicle, which is expected to have a greater focus on European companies than its predecessors, targets transactions featuring distressed debt situations in the mid-market space.
