Advent appoints Hanspeter Spek as operating partner
Advent International has appointed ex-Sanofi president Hanspeter Spek to its operating partner programme.
The programme has seen the GP hire more than 60 senior industry executives to assist in deal sourcing, due diligence and value creation.
Spek will work with Advent's healthcare team to identify investment opportunities and drive growth in pharmaceuticals and pharma-related services globally.
Spek has decades of experience in the healthcare sector. He recently served as president of global operations at French multi-national pharmaceutical company Sanofi. He joined the firm in 1985 as marketing director of its German subsidiary, progressing through the group in roles across Germany and France.
After the merger with Synthélabo in 1999, he was named senior vice president Europe, moving to vice president of international operations in 2000 and later vice president of worldwide operations in 2003.
Prior to Sanofi, Spek worked at Pfizer International, where he held various roles including marketing director for the German subsidiary.
Advent's most recent acquisition in the healthcare space was in 2012, when the GP acquired Dutch pharma firm Mediq. The buyer took Mediq private from the Euronext Amsterdam, in a transaction that valued the firm at €775m.
