UK - Apax cashes in on wafer firm
Apax Partners is believed to have made a profit of £25m on the sale of Wales-based silicon wafer reclamation group Pure Wafer.
The private equity firm acquired the company in 2000 and placed its 50% stake at 300p per share, generating a £40m price tag on Apax’s £15m investment. The Welsh Development Agency, the National Assembly for Wales and IBM Global Finance also backed the company. Over the years, customers have grown to include the largest and most technically advanced semiconductor companies in the world, as well as foundry chip producers and equipment manufacturers. Pure Wafer received ISO4001 certification in June 2004.
