SWEDEN - CVC in merger of Swedish and Danish postal systems
CVC Capital Partners, The Swedish Ministry of Enterprise, Energy & Communication and The Danish Ministry of Transport have signed a letter of intent regarding the merger of the Posten AB and Post Danmark A/B.
The deal, dependent on relevant regulatory approvals, is expected to complete at the end of 2008
The new company will be organised along specialised business divisions, similar to the way in which Posten has been organised since January 1 2007. The traditional postal business in each country will continue to be operated as national entities adhering to national regulations and using the same brands as today (“Posten” and “Posted Danmark”). The logistics businesses will be merged and operate under a seperate brand name.
Post Denmark’s 25% ownership in De Post- La Poste in Belgium will also be part of the new group. The merged group will have turnover of SEK 45bn and more than 50,000 employees.
