UK - Guy Hands slammed by former EMI artist
Guy Hands and Terra Firma "do not understand" the music industry, according to Ed O'Brien, the guitarist of UK band Radiohead, speaking to the Observer Music Magazine.
According to O'Brien, Radiohead were keen to sign a new contract with long-time backers EMI, but were offered a bad deal by the incoming Terra Firma and chose instead to offer their latest album digitally for a discretionary fee. O'Brien said that EMI "has been taken over by somebody who's never owned a record company before and they don't realise what they are dealing with."
Last month, Guy Fletcher, director of music publisher MCS, questioned whether Hands' previous experience is suited to a business such as EMI: "Guy Hands doesn't appreciate that music artists need loving up. Music is different from other industries that Hands has experience in, such as landfill."
Terra Firma paid £2.3bn for EMI in July.
