SPAIN - Carlyle, BC Partners and Eurazeo chase Applus+ deal

This much-anticipated deal follows Candover's frustrated attempt to get its hands on the business less than two years ago. The private equity firm had signed an agreement to buy Applus+ from its shareholders Aguas de Barcelona (Agbar), Unión Fenosa and Caja Madrid, for over EUR 1bn but Agbar, a majority shareholder controlling 53.1% of the company, bailed at the last minute.

Applus+ specialises in inspection, certification and technology services for vehicles. It recorded a turnover of around EUR 600m and an EBITDA of approximately EUR 110m in 2006.
