UK - Phoenix bags Radley
Radley, the UK’s biggest-selling handbag brand, has sold a majority shareholding to Phoenix Equity Partners in a £45m deal.
The new investment, together with the appointment of Roger Best as chief executive, will enable the business to fulfil its ambitions to export the Radley brand into new markets starting with Japan and North America. Radley + Co’s revenues are expected to exceed more than £40m in the year to end April 2006 and have increased by more than 30% annually over the last three years.
In 1991 Lowell Harder joined the group and in 2000 realised her vision to launch a feminine and uniquely different range of handbags with the introduction of Radley. In less then six years, Radley with its distinctive Radley dog brand signature has grown to be the UK’s best selling handbag brand.
Lowell Harder invited Roger Best, former head of Europe, Africa and the Middle East for Reebok (1992 – 2002) and executive chairman of JD Sports (2003-4) to join the group as its new chief executive. Lowell Harder will continue working with the group as creative director.
