SPAIN – Rhône Capital interested in wholesaler El Árbol
According to reports, French firm Rhône Capital is considering a bid for Spanish wholesaler El Árbol.
The company’s board is considering possible routes to finance the acquisition of 450 outlets in Andalucía, Madrid and the Canary Islands from the Dinosol chain, owned by Permira.
Madrigal Participación backed by six regional savings’ banks –Caja España, Caja Duero, Caja Burgos, Caja Ávila, Cajacírculo y Caja Segovia- controls 40% of El Árbol. Grupo Norte y Martinsa holds a further 20% while the Castilla y León government-backed private equity firm Sodical holds a 10% stake. The remaining 30% stake is retained by the management team.
Rhône Capital and the majority of the shareholders could acquire up to a 45% stake in the company in order to safeguard the regional control over the company.
