ITALY - Barclays Private Equity acquires catering business

Barclays Private Equity has completed the management buyout of Gemeaz Cusin Ristorazione and Scapa Italia from the Accor Group. It is understood that the sale of the two businesses is part of Accor's disposal strategy of non-core Italian assets to focus on its main business of hospitality services.

While Gemeaz is active in providing contract services for the catering industry, Scapa focuses on food distribution services. The latter was acquired by Gemeaz in 1975; the two companies recorded a joint turnover of EUR 370m in 2006.
