Bridgepoint appoints ex-M&S chief
Former Marks & Spencer chief executive Sir Stuart Rose is to join private equity firm Bridgepoint as an adviser.
Despite expectations that he would go into politics or join another FTSE 100 company, Rose said he is greatly looking forward to his role on the European Advisory Committee of one of the continent's leading private equity groups.
Now a non-executive director of Land Securities plc and chairman of business in the community, he was first appointed M&S executive chairman in June 2008 and began his career at the retailer in 1994.
Bridgepoint managing partner William Jackson said he is delighted that the firm – a prominent investor in retail – is to benefit from Rose's consumer insight.
"He's had a fantastic business career and has unparalleled experience in the retail world where Bridgepoint has made substantial investments over the years," he commented.
The appointment was described as a "shrewd hire" by David Buik, City commentator at BGC Partners.
