Balderton appoints Chandratillake as general partner

Suranga Chandratillake, the founder of video platform blinkx, has joined Balderton Capital as general partner in the London office.
The new hire will help lead early-stage investments in online media and technology.
Launched in San Francisco and Cambridge in 2004, blinkx is a search engine for audio and video content. The company went public on the London Stock Exchange in 2007 and was valued at £125m.
Chandratillake will retain his position as chief strategy officer at blinkx and remain a director on the board.
Balderton's recent investments include a £700,000 capital commitment to photo and video sharing app Lifecake, and a seed funding round for Dutch 3D printing company 3D Hubs. The investor is currently on the road for its fifth fund.
