
ILPA appoints Teachers’ Carmichael as chair
The Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) has appointed Tanya Carmichael, director of global fund and private capital at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, as chair of its board of directors.
Carmichael oversees the global funds team and portfolio for Teachers'. She has been a member of the ILPA board of directors since 2007. She also sits on the private equity steering committee of the principles of responsible investment.
Prior to joining Teachers' in 2006, Carmichael was an executive director in CIBC World Markets' private equity funds group.
Further to Carmichael's appointment, ILPA's board also welcomed new members Scott Jacobson, the chair of Calpers' education committee; Serra Erdogmus of the Canadian Medical Protective Association; Jennifer Magaňa of SouthOcean Capital Partners; Rob Ross of the California State Teachers' Retirement System; and Anders Strömblad of AP2 Second Swedish National Pension Fund. These new board members were elected at ILPA's annual general meeting, which took place last week.
Returning directors and members of the executive committee are Stephen Whatmore, vice-chair, from QIC; Nicolas Drapeau, secretary, from Bimcor; Jennifer Kerr, treasurer, from Canada Pension Plan Investment Board; Fabrizio Natale, chair, of GP Summit Committee from Washington State Investment Board; Kimberly Woods, chair of the industry affairs committee, from IAM National Pension Fund; Maurice Gordon, chair of the membership committee, from Guardian Life Insurance Corporation of America; and Neil Randall, chair of research, benchmarking and standards committee, from Teacher Retirement System of Texas.
In September, ILPA, which focuses on supporting LPs through education programmes and best practices, launched its Fee Transparency Initiative in an effort to standardise fee and expenses reporting compliance in the private equity industry.
