ITALY - Bridgepoint to bid for World Superbikes' organiser
Press reports suggest that Italian FG Group, the company holding the rights to motorcycle championship World Superbikes, is up for sale for around EUR 70m.
Last summer, Bridgepoint bought Dorna, a motorcycle sports business that promotes and manages MotoGP (the Motorcycle Road Racing World Championship) for around EUR 550m. The seller, CVC, had received clearance by the EU Commission to go ahead with a planned takeover of Formula One, but only if it sold Dorna. The Commission decided that having both Formula One and MotoGP under the same ownership would lead to TV price rises and a lack of choice for consumers. Should Bridgepoint's bid for the Italian company go ahead, the firm may encounter the same monopoly-related issues.
