UK - Maxwell leaves Standard Life following dispute over SLIPE’s future
Industry veteran Jonny Maxwell has left Standard Life Investments Private Equity, citing disagreements over the future of the division which he set up.
Maxwell joined assurer Standard Life in 1989 and became chief executive of Standard Life Investments upon its launch in 1998. Maxwell is believed to have been intent on spinning the division out, while Standard Life wanted to keep it captive. The departure spurred a raft of changes to the senior management: David Currie, the firm’s joint head of private equity since 1998, has stepped up to replace Maxwell. Peter McKellar has been appointed as chief investment officer of Standard Life Investments, while Peter and Stewart Hay have been appointed to the Board.
