NORWAY – 3i acquires Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients for $395m

3i has backed the buyout of Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients, an Oslo-based supplier and developer of pharmaceutical ingredients and division of NYSE-listed Alpharma Inc, for $395m.

The business also has production facilities in Copenhagen, Budapest and Taizhou (China). It has long traditions in Norway with roots dating back to 1903. The company has 700 employees and generated approximately $138.7m in revenues in the first nine months of 2007.
