SPAIN - 3i in Sampletest sale

3i invested in Sampletest, a provider of medical diagnostic tools across Portugal and Spain, in October 2004 and provided further financial support to fund the company’s acquisition plan.

During 3i’s ownership, Sampletest successfully carried out a buy and build strategy in the Iberian clinical laboratories sector, beginning with the buyout of Centro de Diagnóstico Fernando Texeira, a clinical laboratories chain with twelve operations across Portugal and Spain, and following this with a further 15 acquisitions across the region.

Sampletest now offers a wide product range from regular tests to more complex practices such as microbiology, haematology, endocrinology and immunology. The diversified product range has led to an increase in sales revenue from EUR 16m in 2004 to EUR 80m in 2008.
