SPAIN - Mercapital sells its stake in Grupo Hospitalario Quiron
Private equity firm Mercapital has sold its 32% stake in Grupo Hospitalario Quiron, a hospital group to Portuguese firm Jose de Mello.
This follows its sale of a 35% stake in the health care group Hospiten last summer. During the four years that Mercapital owned the stake in Hospiten, its turnover increased from 48m to 121m euros. In 2004, the investment firm bought 80 per cent of the USP hospital group for 217m euros, and is hoping to see its turnover double in 2006 to reach 240m euros.
