
Private equity returns 13.6% for Calpers
US public pension fund Calpers' private equity investments have returned 13.6% in preliminary earnings for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
Calpers saw an overall 12.5% return on investment for the year ending 30 June 2013.
Public equity was the best-performing asset class, returning 19%, while real estate returned 11.2%.
The pension fund outperformed its benchmark by 1.5 percentage points. Calpers' assets at the end of the fiscal year stood at more than $257.8bn.
Calpers (The California Public Employees' Retirement System) is the largest public pension fund in the US. The retirement system administers retirement benefits for more than 1.6 million current and retired California State, public school and local public agency employees and their families.
