UK - Carbon Trust appoints Gilbert Chalk to its board

Gilbert Chalk has extensive experience of venture capital and private equity, where his recent focus has been on small to mid-market companies. His career has spanned corporate finance at Hill Samuel and Hambros Bank, founding Hambro European Ventures, and working as a partner for Baring Private Equity Partners Ltd where he raised and supervised the investment of the Baring English Growth Fund. He remains chairman of the fund. The flotation of the fund is scheduled for mid-October and it plans to raise up to £75m through an institutional placing. The net proceeds of the placing will be invested in small and medium-sized private companies or businesses involved in the low carbon economy and clean energy technologies with particular focus on the emerging clean energy sectors. This includes investments in areas such as advanced solar technologies, fuel cells and related technologies, bio energy, energy storage, integrated waste to energy solutions, and wave and tidal energy conversion devices.
