Amplify raises $375m across two funds
US-based venture capital firm Amplify Partners has closed its fourth flagship early-stage fund Amplify Partners IV on $275m, and Amplify Select Fund, its first growth-stage vehicle, on $100m.
Amplify IV will target seed and series-A rounds, making initial investments in fast-growing startups across North America and Europe, while Amplify Select will be dedicated to increasing commitments to existing portfolio companies at the growth stage.
Amplify Partners IV is larger than its predecessor, Amplify Partners III, which closed on $200m in 2018. "We deliberately sized our fourth fund so we can support portfolio companies throughout their lifecycle, while not growing so large that we diluted our focus on early-stage projects," Ampify said in a statement. "The addition of our first select fund allows us to make significant-sized investments in existing Amplify portfolio companies so our founders can continue scaling their businesses with the partners they know and trust."
The funds invest in high-growth companies operating across the cloud infrastructure, developer tools, AI, data science and cybersecurity segments.
Amplify's team, which is composed of 13 professionals, was recently strengthened with the promotion of Lenny Pruss to general partner and Sarah Catanzaro to partner, and the recruitment of new investors Renee Shah and Natalie Vais. The firm also expanded its operating team to provide bespoke support for its companies' founders by hiring Natasha Katoni and Mark LaRosa.
Headquartered in Menlo Park, California, Amplify has closed 70 seed and series-A investments since inception, including BlueData, Buddybuild, Chef and Conjur. It has also made numerous successful exits, such as the IPOs of Fastly, listed on the NYSE; and Datadog, which floated on the Nasdaq. Its active portfolio has raised more than $3bn in investor capital.
In Europe, Amplify's most recent investments include Paris-based user testing platform Maze, which collected $2m in February 2020; and Berlin-headquartered Prisma, a developer of database tools, which raised $12m in July 2020.
