Capricorn and Particon invest €5m in Black Bear
Capricorn Venture Partners and Particon have invested €5m in Black Bear, a Dutch company that recycles carbon black from used tires.
The two new backers have joined a consortium of investors, including Social Impact Ventures, 5Square, ING Sustainable Investments, SCG Nederweert, Chemelot Ventures and corporate investors, which injected €11m in the business in September this year.
The latest round of funding will help Black Bear to expand internationally and foster product development. The company's long-term goal is to recycle all waste tires into valuable products, which would achieve CO2 emission reductions.
Company
Founded in 2010, Black Bear has developed a patented technology and process to recycle tires into valuable carbon black.
The company's carbonisation process transforms tires into recovered carbon black for use in the production of tires, technical rubber, coatings, plastics and inks. The company is headquartered in Nederweert and employs 35 people as of September.
Black Bear operates an industrial-scale prototype plant in partnership with Kargro, a recycler of tires. The recovered carbon black is used by clients including AkzoNobel, according to a statement from Black Bear.
