
PPM Oost invests in Protifarm
PPM Oost has invested more than €10m in insect farm Protifarm.
Oost (East Netherlands Development Agency) is a development agency created by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate and the provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel. Other undisclosed investors also participated.
The investment will be dedicated to growing the capacity of the insect farm and expanding internationally, as well as optimising cultivation and processing.
Company
Founded in 2015 and based in Ermelo, Protifarm breeds buffalo beetle larvae in vertical farms. The larvae live on by-products from the food industry and later turn the insects into soluble powders to be used in meat products, bars and protein shakes.
