Henq injects €1.1m into SEOshop series-A
Henq Venture Capital has invested €1.1m in Dutch online store provider SEOshop, marking the completion of the company's series-A funding round.
The capital will be used for further expansion throughout Europe. Germany in particular is SEOshop's main focus, due to its "relatively conservative" current market within the sector.
Henq was attracted to the management's entrepreneurial spirit, as well as their experience in running online shops.
Henq, an Amsterdam-based firm, typically invests in young Dutch technology companies operating in the digital media, news & analytics, e-commerce and software-as-a-service (SaaS) markets, with end products preferably aimed at B2B deployment strategies.
The GP's previous deals include a $13m investment alongside Prime Ventures in Rotterdam-based Mendix, a business support platform provider, in November 2011.
Previous funding
Henq initially invested in SEOshop in January 2011. The firm invested via its Innovation Fund 2 vehicle, which is believed to have launched in 2006 and reportedly has €8m under management.
Company
Founded in 2008, SEOshop is based in Amsterdam and employs 37 staff.
The company offers basic and custom-made online stores via its e-commerce platform, which operates as a SaaS. It provides maintenance and design tools to companies that wish to open an online store but lack the technical knowledge needed to do so.
SEOshop monetises its technology by charging a monthly fee for its cloud-based software. The company claims to have recorded a turnover increase of 250% in 2012 and forecasts a 300% growth for 2013.
People
SEOshop CEO Ruud Stelder founded the company alongside CTO Dennis Cuijpers. Coen van Duiven is Henq's founder and CEO. He will be joining SEOshop's board of directors alongside former Hewlett Packard executive Albert Geertjes.
