
Freenom raises $3m
Kima Ventures has led a $3m series-A round for Freenom, a Netherlands-based free domain name provider.
The fresh funding will allow Freenom to expand its operations and further develop its AnyCast cloud network. The company will also begin to look at commercial initiatives for certain markets.

Founded in 2012, Freenom is headquartered in Amsterdam with additional offices in Weiswampach in Luxembourg, Palo Alto in the US and Dakar in Senegal.
Freenom is a registry operator, providing free top-level domains including TK (Tokelau), GA (Gabon) CF (Central African Republic) and ML (Mali). Top-level domains are the end of a URL structure, such as .com, .co.uk and .au.
The company generates revenue by selling the residual traffic of expired domains to advertisement networks. As of January 2014, Freenom will also generate revenue through the offering of services such as hosting packages and secure sockets layer (SSL) certificates to its users.
