DocPlanner raises round valuing business at USD 1bn
DocPlanner, a Poland-based operator of a healthcare services booking platform, has completed an undisclosed round at a unicorn valuation (USD 1bn or more), according to two sources familiar with the situation.
The sources declined to say how much was raised but one of them added that the round took place in August 2021.
Another undisclosed round is expected shortly, both said. It could happen within a year or even by the end of this year, one source said, although the other cautioned it likely will not happen in 2021 due to time constraints.
Large US-based players could participate in the upcoming fundraise, one source said. Existing investors participated in the recently raised round, one source said, while the next round will be open to new investors.
No external financial advisers, such as investment banks, were used for the recent round, both sources said.
Investors in the previous fundraise in mid-2019 included One Peak Partners, Goldman Sachs Private Capital Investing, Piton Capital and Enern Investments; the round totaled EUR 80m, as reported.
DocPlanner declined to comment, aside from saying: "Our investors have partnered with us for the long-term and support us in our growth path. We will continue working hard and making decisions that we believe are in the best interests of our company."
Enern declined to comment. One Peak, Goldman Sachs Private Capital Investing and Piton did not respond to requests for comments.
DocPlanner had earlier raised around EUR 46m, as reported, with EUR 15m at Series D in 2017, USD 20m at Series C in 2016, and around USD 11m in 2015. It also raised USD 1m in 2012.
DocPlanner has a growth model based on acquisitions and, at the same time, the company is not generating significant amounts of free cash, hence the need to raise capital, one source said. The money raised will go towards growth, one source said, without elaborating.
DocPlanner's Polish business ZnanyLekarz had turnover of PLN 67m (USD 17.6m) and PLN 15m in EBITDA last year according to the Polish Companies' House.
Recent deals by DocPlanner include the 2019 purchase of TuoTempo, an Italian provider of CRM systems for medical facilities.
DocPlanner allows patients to search and book appointments with nearby medical professionals online, and provides doctors with tools to manage visits and save time. It claims to be the largest healthcare platform in the world, according to its website, with 66 million unique visitors every month and 105,000 active doctors available. Launched in 2012, it has 1,200 employees.
