Getir to raise more than USD 1bn at USD 12bn pre-money valuation
Getir, a Turkey-headquartered grocery delivery service, plans to raise more than USD 1bn at a USD 12bn pre-money valuation, according to four sources familiar with the situation.
The company is expected to launch and close the process shortly, and to use the proceeds to strengthen its global expansion, particularly in North America, the sources said.
Getir raised a total of USD 1.1bn in three consecutive rounds in 2021 and attained a USD 7.56bn valuation during its latest funding round.
Present in nine countries, it began its global roll-out with the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Portugal, and has most recently entered the US.
Once the fundraising process is completed, Getir will become Turkey's second decacorn – a privately held company valued at more than USD 10bn – after Trendyol.
Getir did not respond to requests for comment.
In the second half of the year, Getir entered Chicago, New York and Boston in the US; Lisbon, London, Amsterdam, Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris and Berlin in Europe; and also Bangalore, India. It has three offices in Turkey, with 12 more globally, managing 1,010 locations in 118 cities globally, according to company documents.
In 2021, Getir's employee numbers increased to more than 4,100 in 15 countries, from 1,300; and the number of drivers and store employees at its franchises increased to 30,000 from 9,000.
Getir acquired Spain-based Blok and UK-based Weezy, besides vertical acquisitions in Turkey that included car-rental company Moov, online marketplace N11.com and supermarket chain Sok Marketler.
In April, Getir also acquired a further 15.6% stake in BiTaksi, a Turkey-based ride-hailing company established by Getir's founders in 2012, increasing its total holding to 35.6%.
