Slovakia looking to take over Penta-backed Dôvera
Slovakian prime minister Robert Fico is mulling a takeover of two private health insurance companies, in a move that could threaten Penta's investment in Dôvera.
Prime minister Fico reportedly told journalists the government disapproved of public funds being channeled towards private health insurers and was looking to establish a single state-owned provider within the next two years.
The Health Ministry wil debate whether it should buy private providers Dôvera and Union from their owners, or nationalise them outright. The associated costs would be covered by the sale of other assets, reports suggest.
Penta acquired a stake in Dôvera in 2002. The Slovakian health insurance company has a market share of approximately 30%, according to the GP. Dôvera provides insurance services to 1,450,000 clients in Slovakia.
According to local press, Penta has taken the plan into consideration but hasn't been in further contact with the Slovakian government to discuss the issue.
