Seed Capital leads DKK 6m round for TeleSkin
Danish VC Seed Capital has invested DKK 6m in TeleSkin, a Serbian skin cancer detection app developer.
An additional Danish VC, Welfare Tech Invest, as well as Serbian business angel Aleksandar Obradovic also participated in the round.
The capital will be used to establish TeleSkin's Danish team and bring its main product, skinScan, to market in Denmark.
Alhough TeleSkin was founded by Serbian doctors and IT specialists, the company moved to Denmark because the country has the world's third-highest rate of melanoma – a disease the company's app helps to detect.
TeleSkin won the European start-up competition Next Step Challenge in 2014, and the new VC funding will add to the DKK 2m prize the company was awarded for winning.
Company
Founded in Serbia but based in Denmark, TeleSkin develops a melanoma identification and tracking app for mobile devices.
Users take a picture of a birth mark or skin spot, and the app will analyse it to determine if it is benign or a potentially harmful abnormality. The app also lets users send the image to skin cancer specialists for further evaluation.
Founded in 2014, the company is based in Esbjerg.
People
Jón Ingi Benediktsson, an investment director in Seed Capital's Medtech team, will join TeleSkin's board as part of the investment. Zeljko Ratkaj is the co-founder and chief technical officer of TeleSkin.
