Partners Group acquires 30% stake in Enerya
Partners Group has acquired a 30% stake in Turkish natural gas distributor Enerya Gas Electricity and Water Distribution from STFA Group.
Turkey-based conglomerate STFA holds the remaining equity stake. Partners Group will work with the company's management team to expand Enerya's offering and area of operations.
According to the GP, the fragmented nature of the gas distribution market in Turkey lends itself to consolidation. The buyer will also consider other sectors of the energy market such as electricity.
Partners Group stated energy and gas consumption per head in Turkey is far lower than in other developing countries, leading to opportunities for growth.
Talks between the buyer and STFA were held for more than two years prior to the transaction.
Company
Founded in 2003, Enerya is headquartered in Istanbul, with nine further distribution centres in western and central Turkey. It holds exclusive 30-year concession rights for each centre.
The company handles approximately 2.8 billion m3 of natural gas per year and aims to become a regional provider of natural gas, electricity and water distribution services. It has 750,000 customers.
