Practica Capital invests in Trafi
Lithuanian venture capital firm Practica Capital has injected $500,000 into Trafi, a Lithuanian journey-planning application developer.
The seed funding was provided by Practica's €6m Practica Seed Capital Fund, which was established under the European Investment Fund's Joint European Resources for Micro to Medium Enterprises (Jeremie) initiative.
Trafi will use the capital injection to roll out its app across markets that are not currently well covered by larger journey-planning providers such as Google.
Trafi's CEO and co-founder Martynas Gudonavičius stated that the company will expand aggressively over 2013/14, according to TechCrunch. It plans to focus on expanding into emerging markets with high-population cities such as Sao Paulo, Mexico City and Moscow.
Company
Founded in 2009, Trafi is headquartered in Vilnius and currently employs eight staff. The company develops a journey-planning app, currently only available in Lithuania on Android, iOS and the web.
Trafi's app is designed to provide users with an all-in-one journey planner that combines public transport, taxis, walking and cycling routes. The app uses real-time data to provide traffic updates and adjusts journey plans accordingly. According to the company, it already draws more than 300,000 unique users per month in Lithuania.
People
Martynas Gudonavičius is the CEO of Trafi and founded the business alongside COO Mantas Vizbaras and CTO Jurgis Pasukonis. In conjunction with the funding round, former Nokia Maps CEO Sylvain Grande has joined Trafi's board of directors.
