Runa exits Metabar
Runa Capital has divested Metabar, the Russian creator of the Sovetnik service, to Russian internet services and search engine provider Yandex.
The sale marks Runa's first exit in Russia, as well as an exit for its first fund, which was launched in 2010 with $135m in capital.
According to the Russian VC, the sale was "very profitable" and has generated a multiple return on investment. Runa invested $1m in Metabar in April 2011.
Runa is currently raising its second fund, Runa Capital II, which has a $200m target. The fund held its first close in July this year.
The acquisition by Yandex marks the fifth exit overall for Runa. Earlier this year, managing partner and co-founder Dmitry Chikhachev spoke to unquote" about the Kremlin's five-year plans for venture capital funding in Russia's technology sector to double by 2018.
Company
Founded in 2010 and based in Moscow, Metabar is the developer of Sovetnik (meaning 'adviser' in Russian), a browser extension designed to provide relevant recommendations to online shoppers.
The service will be integrated into Yandex and powered by data from payment service provider Yandex.Money and Metabar's own technology. Metabar created Sovetnik in 2013 and subsequently focused its business operations around the project.
The Sovetnik service is already used by 2 million people in Russia. The majority of Metabar's team has become part of Yandex and will continue to develop the product.
People
