Nestlé establishes corporate venture fund
In a brief announcement, Nestlé has recently disclosed that it will establish a corporate venturing fund of approximately SFr 200m, which will be managed by an independent management team. Although very few details have been disclosed as the fund is at an early stage of formation, it is known that the Nestlé will expect the fund to produce returns comparable with other corporate venture funds over a 10-year period. The purpose of the fund’s creation is to provide Nestlé with a window on scientific developments and new technology opportunities through acquisitions, licensing, participating in joint ventures or through securing minority stakes. Additionally, the fund will provide a means of developing/commercialising those of Nestlé’s research projects that are either high-risk or do not fit the Group’s strategic objectives. According to official sources, the fund will look at investments in the food, life-sciences, packaging and other commercial sectors. Further details will be published as they become available.
