Schmack Biogas AG

A syndicate of investors consisting of BayBG Bayerische Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, S-Refit and Umweltbank has financed a capital increase of EUR 1.5m at Schmack Biogas AG. All three investors have backed the company with EUR 500,000 each. In March 2000 BayBG arranged a first round of funding of EUR 1m; this latest investment brings the total investment to EUR 2.5m. Of BayBG's EUR 1.5m of funding only EUR 70,000 have been invested in equity, while EUR 1.43m have been arranged as a silent partnership.

Company

Schmack Biogas AG anticipates a turnover of EUR 15m for 2002; this would represent a five-fold increase since 1999. The company was founded in 1995 and today employs 60 staff. Schmack constructs methane production facilities used for the agricultural and food segment. The company has won the environment innovation price 2001 from the Bavarian ministry for economics and, more recently, the Energieförderpreis from E.ON Bayern.

People

Birgit Lenz coordinated the funding on behalf of BayBG; Hartmut Langhorst, chairman of the supervisory board at BayBG, is a member of the supervisory board at Schmack. Ulrich Schmack is the company's director.
