J García Carrión

EBM Alisma and several savings banks have acquired shares in J García Carrión through a capital expansion. The total value of the transaction was E87.5m and together the new shareholders will control 26% of the company. EBM Alisma acquired a 3% stake in the company after investing E10.1m. The other new shareholders include: Caja de Ahorros de Mediterráneo 8.9% (E30m), CCM Corporación 5% (E16.8m), Caja Murcia 4% (E13.5m), El Monte 4% (E13.5m) and EBN Banco 1.1% (E3.7m). The García Carrión family holds the remaining 74% stake. The deal was completed on 10 February.

Company

J García Carrión is based in Murcia and specialises in the production and packaging of wines and juices. It produces 10 varieties of wine including Mayor de Castilla and Viña del Mar, while the brand Don Simón is a leading make of fruit juices, sangria and gazpacho. Over the past 10 years, the company has experienced a strong increase in turnover, growing from E75m to E400m in 2004. J García Carrión plans to invest in a production plant for fresh orange juice in Huelva and in a winery in La Guardia, Rioja Alavesa.
