3i Barometer indicates mixed confidence across Europe
The latest quarterly 3i European Enterprise Barometer Index, measuring private companies' confidence in business, political and economic climates, remains in positive territory despite showing a slight fall from the high of last quarter. The index for Europe, which is currently at +30, is level to where it was in Q1 of this year. However, there is considerable variation in confidence levels throughout the European countries polled. The index in France is positive for the first time in three and a half years (14 surveys), showing a significant rise from -35 to +13. Although encouraging, it is still lower than other European countries. The index has decreased significantly, but remains positive, in Germany and Spain while the fall in Italy makes this the only negative country (-18). The Index is down marginally in the UK and up marginally in the Nordic countries, the most positive region surveyed.
