BVK praises investors professionalism
The Bundesverband deutscher Kapitalbeteiligungs-gesellschaften eV (BVK) and Ray & Berndtson Financial Services Unternehmensberatung GmbH have jointly published a study on the increasing professionalism of German private equity investors for the first time since 1999. The study is called "Personal- und Gehaltssituationen der deutschen Kapitalbeteiligungs-gesellschaften". The salary structure within the private equity industry in particular has adopted Anglo-Saxon ideas. In 2002 some 17% of BVK members employed more than ten professionals, while only 83% employed less than ten; this compares to the 1999 figures of 10% and 90% respectively. Many investors have moved to teams with specific sector knowledge, 42% of the interviewed. The typical investment professional has either a business degree (50%) or a science or engineering degree (39%), while only 10% of the interviewed holds a law degree. The employees would today also benefit from a more flexible payment structure that includes profit shares and carried interest for staff in the higher and middle management positions.
